The high-level debate will raise awareness on the scale and complexity of crimes that affect the environment, and their impact on security, sustainable development and human rights. The meeting will offer a platform to reiterate the strategic importance of preventing and combating this type of crime, to share information on their trends and exchange good practice in responding to them. The meeting will also contribute to addressing the relationship between crimes that affect the environment and corruption. This World Environment Day, warning signals are everywhere. The past eleven years have been the eleven hottest on record. And the damage goes far beyond rising temperatures – from polluted air to degraded land, collapsing ecosystems, and vanishing biodiversity. Harming health, destroying homes and deepening hunger. The world is heading for a temporary overshoot above 1.5 degrees. Every fraction of a degree brings greater harm – especially to the most vulnerable. Our task is to make that overshoot as small, as short, and as safe as possible – and rapidly bring temperatures back down. That means slashing emissions. Accelerating a just transition away from fossil fuels and towards renewables – the only sustainable path to lower costs and to real energy security. Cutting methane – one of the fastest, cheapest ways to limit near-term warming. Protecting forests, land, and seas. Helping communities adapt to the devastating impacts already here. À propos du thème : l’action climatique La planète ne discute pas. Elle ne négocie pas. Elle envoie des signaux : montée des eaux, incendies incontrôlables, vagues de chaleur, fonte des glaciers. Nous avions fixé la limite d’une montée des températures à 1,5°C. Nous sommes en train de la dépasser. Depuis des décennies, des récits climatiques ont été racontés à travers le monde, marqués d’avertissements, objectifs et échéances lointaines. Trop souvent la réponse a été noyée dans le bruit : retard, distraction et déni. Mais si nous écoutons attentivement, derrière le bruit s’élève un autre signal.
